Poet Dawna Markova writes, “I choose to risk my significance; to live so that which came to me as seed goes to the next as blossom and that which came to me as blossom goes on as fruit.”

Rosh Hashana 5786 arrives in six weeks.  It is a time for harvesting and planting anew. To risk, to reach, to truly see and be seen. A moment of clarity, an opportunity to celebrate the depth and breadth of being a Jew. To welcome the seeds we sow, the blossoms yet to grow, and the fruit of our tradition. As always, some of the harvest of tradition can be found in music which has been central to Jewish life for ages.

I am excited to announce that our cellist for these High Holy Days will be Alisha Bauer, a performing, recording and teaching artist. Highlights include album contributions for Brian Wilson, Stevie Nicks, One Direction, Dr. Dre, and Madonna as well as contributing to the soundtracks for Inside Out 2,   Transformers One and the TV scores for Family Guy and Fire Country. She is the cellist and co-founder of the Alcantara Piano Trio and performs with the Hollywood Bowl Orchestras.

For any who have not yet registered, please go here to reserve your place at the Annenberg Community House for our uplifting High Holy Day experiences, either in person in the Sand and Sea Room overlooking the ocean or to receive the link to our Bayit by the Sea Livestream in time for each service.

Shabbat Shalom, Jan
