The Power of the Flower
Softly the Sabbath has plucked
the sinking sun.
Slowly the Sabbath descends,
the rose of heaven in her hand.
How can the Sabbath
plant a huge and shining flower
in a blind and narrow heart? – Zelda
Dear Friends,
The poet Zelda, born Zelda Schneurson Mishkovsky (1914–1984) was a highly acclaimed Israeli poet
born in Ukraine.
From a distinguished Hasidic rabbinical family, she immigrated to Jerusalem in 1926 and wrote deeply mystical, spiritual, and widely celebrated verses that bridged Israel’s secular and religious divides.
In these complicated times, we, too, must bridge divides within our world, our family and friends, within ourselves. That is the promise and invitation of the High Holy Days, to locate the holiness in our lives, to find the flowers around us, and to plant their seeds. Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur are opportunities to nourish and rediscover, to uplift and celebrate.
We look forward to your joining us in person or virtually on our livestream, to add to the power and promise of community. We are so fortunate to be joined by the joyous voice of Rena Strober to lead us in prayer and song, and talented, passion-filled musicians, Bruce Garnitz and Steve Blum, to elevate our souls with music.

May our hearts find in our traditions, the flowers planted for us.
Shabbat shalom, Jan
